Supporting household customers in power use
Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has given the discounts on instructions from the Ministry of Industry and Trade after identifying the qualifying beneficiaries.
EVN has also directed power corporations to resolve customer queries, complaints relating to electricity meters, prices and invoices and information about support policies.
According to EVN’s report, as of May 12, 2020, EVN had issued discount invoices for 12.4 million customers (accounting for 43.94 percent of customers) for a total of nearly VND1.74 trillion. Of those, 11.06 million are household customers benefiting from a discount of VND391.67 billion; 1.35 million are non-household customers enjoying discount of VND1.31 trillion; 2,680 tourism facilities and 439 Covid-19 treatment facilities also received discounts of VND26.98 and VND4.59 billion, respectively
EVN’s Head of Business Department Nguyen Quoc Dung said that information about the electricity price reduction and electricity prices were posted publicly at all transaction locations, and on customer care websites. For the tourism facilities, EVN has sent notices via SMS and emails asking eligible customers to provide necessary documents in accordance with the 2017 Law on Tourism.
EVN also provided a tool of online electricity billing on the group’s website so that customers can access and calculate their electricity bills and discounts on their own.
Dung said despite the positive results, the power companies still encountered difficulties in identifying customers, especially since tourism facilities or Covid-19 treatment facilities are not certified by local People’s Committees as they are under the central management of the Ministries of Defense, Public Security and Health, and the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control. In order to solve the above problems, EVN has sent documents to relevant ministries, sectors and agencies to provide specific instructions for facilitating the work of power corporations/companies.
According to EVN, the total value of the relief package for a period of three months was estimated at 11 trillion VND with about 26.6 million households and more than two million businesses enjoying discounts of 10 percent on their bills.
