Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has announced that at present the group was concentrating on realising the national power development master plan for the period of 2006-2015, with the vision to 2025, which was considered the largest plan with high investment capital then ever before.

For the period of 2006-2010, it's estimated that the total investment capital for construction on power plant projects would be 206.68 trillion dong. EVN has been carrying out 29 power generating projects with total designed capital of 11,820 MW. In the last four years of 2006-2009, the power capacity of about 5,000 MW has been supplemented to the national grid network.

It's expected that in 2010, EVN will put into operation the additional seven power plants with total designed capacity of 2,130 MW including thermo power plants of Hai Phong 1, Hai Phong 2, Quang Ninh 1, Quang Ninh 2 and hydropower plants of Son La, Ban Ve, Khe-Kanak, Srepok 3, Song Tranh 2 and Dong Nai 3.

Four new projects with total designed capacity of 2,216MW such as Thai Binh 1, Lai Chau, Trung Sown and Song Bung 4 are planned to be started in the soonest time. In addition, the group will also try to finish all the necessary procedures required by the loan providers of ADB and Jica in order to kick off the power projects of Mong Duong 1, Nghi Son 1. Moreover, EVN is supposed to start construction work on two 500KV power grid projects that play important part in connecting the national power centre with the national grid network namely the 500KV line of Vinh Tan-Song May and Quang Ninh-Hiep Hoa and other 110-220KV power grid projects.

So, the total capacity of Vietnam's power industry was posted at 15,763MW, in which those belong to EVN accounted for 68 percent of the total. The total length of high-tension power line of the whole country from 110-500KV reached over 23,694 kilometres.
