In April 2019, total electricity output of EVNGENCO 1 was nearly 3.62 billion kWh
Ensuring sufficient fuel for production
According to an April report by EVNGENCO 1, the key task of the corporation was to ensure fuel for thermal power plants, meeting high demand of the system in the dry season of 2019.
In addition to promoting cooperation with the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) and the Dong Bac Corporation to ensure coal supply following the signed contracts, the corporation had used a bidding process to buy imported antheracite coal, while speeding up the dredging of the coal port in the Duyen Hai Power Center to improve coal loading and unloading productivity.
Domestic coal output has so far ensured production demand but has not met the demand for coal reserves. In April 2019, total electricity output of EVNGENCO 1 reached nearly 3.62 billion kWh, equivalent to 116.6 percent of the monthly plan. In the first four months of the year, this figure stood at nearly 12.33 billion kWh, equivalent to 33.7 percent of the yearly plan. According to the report, hydropower plants operated safely and stably to meet the requirements of the National Load Dispatch Center (A0) and the demand for downstream water supply. Thermal power plants operated stably, with prominent usability and were mobilized with high capacity, especially units at the Duyen Hai Power Center and Nghi Son 1 Thermal Power Plant.
In addition, the corporation had also cooperated with related parties to overcome problems at the extended Duyen Hai 3 Thermal Power Plant project (invested by EVN and EVNGENCO 1 and managed by the Thermal Power Project Management Board 3), and complete the equitization of the parent company and divestments from joint stock companies.
The mission of EVNGENCO 1 is to ensure safe and continuous power supply
Strengthening operational management
In May 2019, EVNGENCO 1’s power output plan is to reach nearly 3.34 billion kWh. The output is made up of 659 million kWh from hydroelectricity and more than 3.39 billion kWh of thermal power.
According to an EVNGENCO 1 representative, during the peak period of the dry season, coal-fired thermal power plants are the safest and most reliable units.
The corporation has requested hydropower plants to exploit their water source optimally, implement the inter-reservoir regulation process, and meet the requirements of flood control and water supply for downstream. For thermal power plants, the corporation has asked them to strengthen operational management; assess and supervise the implementation of economic and technical details.
EVNGENCO 1 has also paid special attention to solutions that ensure adequate coal supply for thermal power plants. For domestic coal resources, the corporation will plan to coordinate, receive and improve loading and unloading productivity, while keeping abreast of supply units to ensure fuel supply. The goal is to complete the signing of long-term coal trading contracts with Vinacomin and the Dong Bac Corporation. For imported coal, the corporation will complete procedures for approving a short list of coal suppliers and signing coal buying and selling contracts for the 2019-2020 period, in order to ensure coal sources for the Duyen Hai 3 Thermal Power Plant. In addition, EVNGENCO 1 will develop a coal use strategy for thermal power plants after 2020.
For construction and investment, EVNGENCO 1 will strictly control the progress and supervise the quality of construction. The goal for the expanded Duyen Hai 3 Thermal Power Plant project will be ensured in June 2019. For the expanded Da Nhim Hydropower project, EVNGENCO 1 has directed to complete the first phase of geological survey drilling, tunnel reinforcement and signing the appendix of amending electricity trading contracts.
Although some obstacles remain, EVNGENCO 1 is committed to the task of producing electricity for the national electricity system, contributing to providing safe and continuous power to serve the country’s economic development.
