The construction works are expected to begin in the summer of 2025, Kyon said.
The project approval represents “a significant milestone in the expansion of energy storage capacities in the region”, Kyon Energy said.
“With the Brilon site, we are creating ideal conditions to make an important contribution to stabilising the electricity grid in the region's current tense grid situation and to be part of the solution”, the company’s co-managing director Florian Antwerpen was cited in the statement.
Kyon Energy has a project pipeline of over 7 GW, including over 1 GW of approved and ready-to-build projects. The company, which was acquired by French energy group TotalEnergies earlier in the year, recently revealed plans to expand its activities to also cover the operation of large-scale battery storage systems.
