On March 1st, 2017, the World Bank (WB) mission, together with consultants of Effigis and Center for Environmental Fluid Dynamics of VNU University of Science (CEFD) – the partner of Effigis in Vietnam, conducted a meeting with EVNCPC on scaling up solar energy in Vietnam at EVNCPC’s headquarter.

The meeting between EVNCPC and WB mission.

The mission consisted of Mr. Tran Hong Ky – Task Team Leader, Mr. Van Tien Hung – Senior Energy Specialist who accompanied with EVNCPC during the rural electrification period and now the grid modernization, and international consultants from America and Canada. Representatives from EVNCPC were Mr. Le Nam Hai – Deputy General Director, leaders, and experts from EVNCPC functional departments and leaders of Danang PC.

This is one of the first steps in the WB’s solar energy project, aiming to support Vietnam Government in the development of renewable energy in general and solar power in specific, with the target of installing 12GB solar power until 2030.

The WB, within the project, will support the Government to build the solar PV strategy and to conduct the rooftop solar PV technical assistance in Danang and Ho Chi Minh city. Through this meeting, the WB wanted to find out EVNCPC’s opinions and suggested EVNCPC to support the WB’s consultants in data collection.

The Deputy General Director – Mr. Le Nam Hai said that EVNCPC is willing to support the WB and consultants in doing the survey and identifying the location for the solar station in Danang. He shared with the mission his concerns relating to solar PV project and provided practical suggestions for the consultants.

The WB presented and analyzed each step in the project implementation, which partially addressed the concerns of EVNCPC.
