Spain’s Acciona Energia (BME: ANE) has launched the construction of its 380-MWp Aldoga solar park in Queensland, which will deliver electricity to what will become the Aussie state’s largest green hydrogen production site.

The start of building activities was made at an official sod-turning ceremony, the Queensland government announced.

To be installed 20 km (12.4 mi) northwest of Gladstone, on the Central Queensland coast, the AUD-500-million (USD 323.6m/EUR 303.4m) photovoltaic (PV) farm should come on stream in December 2025. Via a direct connection, it will power stage one of the up-to-2.24-GW Central Queensland Hydrogen Project (CQ-H2), which is planned to produce green hydrogen for export to Japan and Singapore and use by Central Queensland industries. A 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the solar power off-take was signed with Stanwell Corporation last October.

The Aldoga park’s output will be enough to supply roughly 185,000. Acciona previously said that project construction works are expected to take 18 months.
