The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) is preparing to accept the low-voltage power network so as to directly sell electricity to households in rural areas.

This is a long-term policy which is implemented by EVN in all power plants in localities where the rural power wholesale rate is still at a high level.

As shown by statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, there are 4,945 communes (56.7%) and 7.21 million rural households (55.2%) which are controlled by the local authorities about electricity selling.

The electricity tariff via the center meter of EVN is just 390 dongs/kWh for the population’s consumption. In fact, in some areas, this tariff is up to 1,000 – 2,000 dongs/kWh. From now to 2010, EVN will take over the power sale to rural households.
