Election preparation under way

<p style="text-align: justify;">The election council for the 13th National Assembly (NA) and People's Councils at all levels for the 2011-16 term held its third session in Ha Noi yesterday.<br /> &#160;</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;">They discussed reports on their activities and the activities of sub-committees during the previous session, as well as the results of the second consultative conference for the upcoming elections. According to reports on the election preparation process, there will be 500 deputies to the the 13th NA, in accordance with the law.<br /> <br /> By 5pm on March 18, 2011 – the deadline for receiving candidates' dossiers - 1,149 dossiers had been sent to the election council and provincial and municipal election committees.<br /> <br /> From March 20-23, the Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee and the provincial and municipal VFF committees conducted their second consultative conferences to draw up the preliminary candidate roster. The conferences agreed on 1,086 candidates at the central and local levels, including the 83 self-nominated candidates.<br /> <br /> By March 31, central and local agencies had gathered voters' opinions of the candidates.<br /> <br /> A total of 3,832 deputies are to be elected to the people's councils in 63 provinces and cities, 20,785 will be elected at the district level, and 273,433 will be elected at the communal level.<br /> <br /> Localities are implementing the fourth step of the consultative process, which is to collect voters' comments and votes of confidence for the candidates. The process will end on April 10.<br /> <br /> About 93,800 constituencies will be set up nationwide for the elections.<br /> <br /> At the session, Party General Secretary and NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the effective work and smooth co-ordination among agencies and localities, saying the process took place in line with the law and in a democratic and careful manner. <br /> </span></p> Source: Vietnam News
