Prolonged hot weather in the north and central regions resulting in high power consumption.
The electricity consumption across the country hit a new record in June as a result of prolonged hot weather in the north and central regions, according to the Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
The power consumption nationwide reached 1.025 billion kWh per day on June 14, surpassing the last peak of 1,009 billion kWh per day on May 28.
It is forecast to continue rising, increasing the pressure on power supply during upcoming peak heat waves.
In order to ensure electricity supply for 2024 and following years as directed by the Prime Minister, the EVN and related units have been taking a series of measures to optimize the operation of the electricity system and market, increase import of electricity, and encourage customers to use electricity efficiently and economically.
In the first five months of 2024, electricity output was estimated at 124.25 billion kWh, up 12.2% compared to the same period last year.
At a recent regular press briefing, Deputy Director of the Electricity Regulatory Authority at the Ministry of Industry and Trade Nguyen The Huu confirmed that there will be no electricity shortages this year.
