India and Germany sign pact for skill boost in solar power sector.

Rajasthan Solar Association and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH signed an agreement on Tuesday for the skill development in the solar segment with the help of workshops and training programmes which will be conceived and implemented by the professionals.

Indo German Vocational Education and Training Program (IGVET) under the GIZ GmbH is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The proposal pilots cooperative vocational education and training in clusters. It assists six clusters: 1. Automotive components cluster in Aurangabad, Maharashtra; 2. Electronics cluster in Bengaluru, Karnataka; 3. Energy efficient construction cluster in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan; 4. Solar energy cluster in Pune, Maharashtra; 5. Retail cluster in Mumbai, Maharashtra; 6. Life sciences cluster in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Implemented by GIZ, it aims at improving the skills of India’s labour force. The program is inspired by the German dual system of training, which emphasizes the active role of the private sector in providing high quality, on-thejob training opportunities.

RSA in association with the GIZ has already designed a series of initiatives in the coming years for the skill development in the solar segment.

Suman Kumar and Sunil Bansal, president and general secretary of RSA appraised GIZ executives regarding the RSA’s initiative to start a skill development institute along with a facilitation centre for the solar industry stakeholders at Bap in Jodhpur with the help of the state government.
