Asia-Pacific power industry tender activity in September 2019 saw 425 tenders announced, marking a drop of 31% over the last 12-month average of 620, according to GlobalData’s power database.
 
India, however, led the activity in September 2019 with 254 tenders and a share of 59.8%, up 9.8% over the previous month and down 21% when compared with the last 12 month-average. India was followed by the Philippines with 59 tenders and a share of 13.9%. Bangladesh issued 55 tenders and its share was 12.9% during the month.
 
Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 321 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 101 and the Philippines with 83 tenders.
 
Top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity in the region were NHPC with a tender for 2,000MW, Solar Energy Corporation of India, with a tender for 200MW and Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency with a 500MW capacity tender.
 
In terms of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 69 tenders and a 51.9% share, followed by solar with 51 tenders and a 38.3% share and hydro with nine tenders and a 6.8% share.
 
T&D Project was the most popular segment in September 2019, with 222 tenders, followed by T&D equipment (79) and generation equipment (65).
 
Proportion of tenders for project Implementation was 50.4% with 214 tenders. Supply & erection was 26.6% with 113 tenders, repair, maintenance & upgrade was 20.9% with 89 tenders. Tenders for consulting were five with 1.2% share, while electricity supply tenders were 3 with 0.7% share and one power purchase agreement tender.
