More than 5,000 households in the central and Central Highlands regions have installed roof-top solar power systems with a total capacity of 150 MWp, generating 85.46 million kWh of electricity to the national grid.
With more average daily sun hours than other regions in Vietnam, the regions boast huge potential to develop home-based roof-top solar projects.
Vietnam Electricity (EVN)'s Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) has been promoting Government policies related to solar power development, and encouraging customers to install roof-top solar power systems.
It has also issued regulations and guidelines in order to create favourable conditions for signing electricity purchase contracts with households which are investing in the field.
According to the EVN, power consumption nationwide in March increased by 8.55 percent over the same period last year. Two economic hubs – Hanoi and HCM City – had 17 percent and 13 percent rises, respectively.
The Prime Minister recently issued Decision 13/2020 / QD-TTg for an incentive programme to encourage the development of solar energy in Vietnam
It offers a buyback rate for photovoltaic roof-top cells at 1,943 VND (0.0935 USD) per KWh for all solar power projects. The decision has earned confidence and encouraged solar power investors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since 2017, with the issuance of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s Decision 11/2017/ QD-TTg, solar power projects have been allowed to sell electricity at that fixed price.
