The US$13.7 million project, which comes from official development assistance (ODA) from South Korea, will provide electricity for nearly 1,300 households in 46 hamlets and 78 public services in nine communes in Le Thuy, Quang Ninh, Bo Trach and Minh Hoa districts. All the communes are well away from the national grid and are located near the border with Laos.
The project is expected to start generating electricity at 30 per cent of capacity by the end of this year and become fully operational by the end of the year.
Nguyen Huu Hoai, chairman of the provincial People's Committee, said that the project would serve poor and ethnic people.
Vo Quang Minh, project manager, said that rough terrain and unfavourable weather conditions would slow the project down.
Lim Tae Seong, a representative from South Korea's KT Corporation, pledged to ensure project quality and to keep progress on schedule.
