The Prime Minister asked Murphy Oil to speed up the progress of the Golden Camel project

On the occasion of visiting and working in the United States, in Washington, D.C., Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Roger Jenkins - General Director of Murphy Oil (USA).

At the meeting, the Prime Minister asked Murphy Oil to urgently coordinate with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and the PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) to deal with relevant issues, direct relevant ministries to study Murphy Oil's proposal for speeding up the progress of the Golden Camel field project.
 
Murphy Oil is a large US corporation exploiting oil and gas in the United States and Canada and developing reserves in Australia, Brazil, and Southeast Asia. In 2020, the oil output of this corporation was more than 174,000 barrels per day and in 2021, the turnover reached 2.8 billion USD.
 
In Vietnam, Murphy Oil invested about 300 million USD in search, and exploration and at present is operating oil and gas blocks in Cuu Long and Phu Khanh basins. Murphy Oil is also cooperating with PVEP to develop the Golden Camel project (Cuu Long basin) with a total investment of 700 million USD.
 
At the meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Murphy Oil leaders reported on the results of their operations in Vietnam, especially the development progress of the Golden Camel project and proposed support measures to speed up the progress of the project. On other hand, Murphy Oil should continue the search and exploration activities in the blocks under its management in accordance with commitments to the Government of Vietnam.
 
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the cooperation and active participation of Murphy Oil in oil and gas search and exploration activities in recent years in Vietnam
 
and welcomed the plan of the corporation to expand operations coming time in Vietnam under the spirit of "harmonious benefits, shared risks".
 
Proposing the two sides to speed up the progress of the works, the Prime Minister informed that the Vietnamese Government gave instructions and PVN held a meeting with the consortium of contractors and the ministries, and agencies to consider and solve the problems of the Golden Camel project.
 
The Prime Minister also asked Murphy Oil in coming time urgently continuously to coordinate with PVN and PVEP to resolve relevant problems. On the other hand, the Prime Minister also will direct the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Planning and Investment to study the proposals of Murphy Oil to speed up the progress of the Golden Camel project.
