The milestone marks the end of the first phase of construction activities. The foundations were installed on schedule, despite the harsh winter conditions.
The next construction phase will include the installation of inter-array medium-voltage cables and is planned to begin this spring. Two additional mono-bucket foundations are to be erected in the second quarter, which will be the first commercial deployment of that technology globally, Northland Power said.
The Deutsche Bucht wind park is being set up off the island of Borkum in the German Exclusive Economic Zone. It will use 31 units of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind’s V164 8.4 MW wind turbines, totalling 252 MW, will be mounted on steel monopile foundations, while two turbines of the same model totalling 16.8 MW will use the mono-bucket foundations.
Once fully operational in the second half of 2019, it will generate 1.1 million kWh of power annually, or as much as 328,000 households consume.
