The 780-million-USD project is a joint venture between Cambodia’s Royal Group (39 percent), the Chinese state-owned Hydrolancang International Energy (51 percent), and Vietnam’s EVN International (10 percent).
The Lower Sesan II dam is 56.5m in height, covering a plot of 36,000ha, and has a total designed capacity of 400 megawatts.
The project was built under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract that lasts for 45 years, of which five years were earmarked for construction and 40 years for operation.
Cambodian Minister of Mining and Energy Suy Sem said the dam is estimated to produce 1.9 billion kilowatt-hours per year.
Ownership will be handed over to the Cambodian Government after 40 years of operation.
