In Song Tu Tay Commune, Truong Sa District, Khanh Hoa Province, the Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation worked with the Vietnam Navy High Command to run the project on clean energy and lighting system on the Truong Sa Archipelago and DK1 Drill Rig.

The project is carried out on nine floating islands, 24 sinking islands and 15 DK drill rigs. The clean energy system includes 21 energy stations, 118 wind power turbines, 4,093 220W solar power panels, 4,184 12V/230Ah batteries, a cable system and other accessories. The lighting system includes 610 lamps which are distributed around the floating, sinking islands and drill rigs.

Do Van Hau, the deputy director of the Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation, said that in the previous years, thanks to support of people all the country, the National Petroleum Corporation has rapidly developed. The sea and island play an important role to the country’s development. Aware of difficulties facing people’s in Truong Sa Islands and DK drill rig, the corporation invested more than VND437 billion to carry out the project on supplying electricity for Truong Sa. This is a gift from leaders and workers of the Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation and people all over the country to people on Truong Sa Island, helping them promote socioeconomic development and narrow the distance between the islands and the mainland.

The constructors built the system in just one year with more than 700 tonnes of steel components, 732cu.m concrete to build foundations, 6,960m underground cables, 21 energy stations, 118 wind power turbines, 4,093 220W solar power panels, 4,184 12V/230Ah batteries and the lighting system including 610 lamps.

The project produces 5,166kWh per day (equal to 155,000kWh per month). The project can meet electricity demand of people in this area. This project helps people in Truong Sa save many billion Vietnamese Dongs on running electricity generators and reduce the environmental pollution.

The headlight system that has lighting distance of at least 1,000m uses electricity produced by wind power turbines and solar power panels. Total investment capital of this project is VND437.664 billion, among which more than VND37 billion was spent for the trial stage and the remainders was used to carry out the project.

The project contributes to improving the material and spiritual life of people on Truong Sa Island and to the socioeconomic development in this area.
