The Minister for Industry and Commerce has underlined the ‘heavier’ duty faced by the electricity sector in 2010, which needs to increase the amount of trade electricity amount by 13-14 percent ( 85.14 billion kWh) to meet the GDP growth target of 6.5 percent set by the National Assembly.

Addressing the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) conference on deploying duties and measures for 2010, Mr Vu Huy Hoang said the sector must overcome numerous difficulties to meet the economy’s demands at the highest possible level.

On January 15, Mr Hoang said that EVN should draw up effective plans for production as well and buy electricity from external sources if necessary during dry months. He said the group should minimize any overhaul of thermal power plants and coordinate its activities with power plants run by other groups (such as oil, gas or mineral groups) in the overall interests of the nation.
