The MoIT added that commercial electricity output reached 23.3 billion kWh in the first quarter, an increase of 9.9 per cent over the same term last year.
The ministry said hydro- and thermal power plants as well as gas turbines would run at maximum capacity to ensure adequate supply from March to June.
To meet power demand for socio-economic development amongst local people and businesses, the ministry assigned Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) to maintain water levels at large hydropower plants, especially those in the central region, as high as possible until June.
EVN worked with the Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and the Viet Nam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) to plan repairs and maintenance to ensure generators were available in the dry season when needed.
EVN also worked with its local departments to promote the implementation of energy saving measures, encouraging people to use power reasonably and effectively.
