Implemented with a total investment of over 1.13 trillion VND (50.8 million USD), the project will build 971 km of medium-voltage line and 869km of low-voltage line, and install over 1,100 transformer stations.

Once completed, it is expected to bring electricity to 39 communes in five districts, and run 400 pump stations supplying water to over 67,000 ha of farmland across the province.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Le Minh Khai said Bac Lieu always pays attentions to developing rural electrification and considers this as one of the key factors to promote industrialisation and agricultural modernisation in the locality.

The local authorities have mobilised many resources to build and upgrade electrical systems in rural areas, significantly contributing to transforming the rural economic structure and facilitating agricultural and handicraft development.

This also helps improve living standard for local people and promote new-style rural building and poverty reduction.

On the occasion, representatives from the Phuong Nam Electric Technology Co., Ltd – the project’s contractor, presented 50 scholarships worth 1 million VND (45 USD) each, to the education encouragement fund of Hong Dan district, to support local students in difficult circumstances.
