The facility will enter into service in the current quarter.
It took two months, from October 19 to December 19, for Acciona to install over 1.07 million PV panels in the Sonora desert. In a single day, December 18, it assembled 43,080 modules.
Acciona’s energy division, Acciona Energia, built the turnkey project for a 50/50 joint venture between it and Tuto Energy (Biofields Group). The total estimated investment stood at USD 349 million (EUR 302.8m).
The Puerto Libertad complex comprises more than 1.22 million polycrystalline silicon panels mounted on 1,496 horizontal tracking structures with a solar radiation collection surface area of 2.4 sq km. The plant will produce around 963 GWh of electricity annually, enough to meet the demand of 583,000 households in Mexico.
With the new PV plant, Acciona Energia now holds a 1,144-MW portfolio in Mexico, split between 739.5 MW wind and 404.5 MWp PV. The net capacity for Acciona is 942 MW.
