Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, who is also head of the State steering committee for key oil and gas projects paid a working trip to the Ca Mau Gas-electricity-fertilizer Complex on January 15.
Mr Hai expressed his pleasure at the efficient operation of the Ca Mau 1 and 2 power plants and the PM3-Ca Mau gas pipeline system, which are part of the complex. He said that the facility has made significant contributions to the national economy and given a facelift to the U MInh rural area in Vietnam’s southernmost province.
The Deputy PM praised the complex’s management board for their efforts to run the power plants which have operated safely and generated over 10 billion kWh, ensuring the national energy security.
He urged the board to ensure the safe operation of the complex, strictly monitor the implementation of its on-going projects and pay due attention to site clearance and resettlement.
Mr Hai also requested that the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group facilitate negotiations with its partners to supply more sources of gas for the two power plants. It is also essential to improve the living conditions of officials and workers at the complex and help ensure social welfare in Ca Mau province in general, he noted.
The Government leader emphasized the need to build a waste treatment plant in the complex to avoid having a negative impact on the aquacultural activities of local residents.
According to the management board, in 2009 the Ca Mau 1 and 2 power plants generated 6.42 million kWh, earning VND6.7 trillion. At present, the fertilizer plant is under construction and is expected begin trial runs in April 2011.
