Vietnam News Agency reported that over 12,200 ethnic minority families had been given cultivated land with over 5,500 families being provided with residential land and over 28,500 poor families assisted with loans for the building of new houses.
The money has also been spent on concentrated safe water supply constructions, giving vocational training and agricultural production machines to thousands of ethnic minority families in remote areas.
The province has given loans increasing from VND 5.46 million per family to 11.5 million to invest in the agricultural, forestry and service sectors.
Surveys have shown that the number of poor ethnic minority families has been rapidly reduced from 48.26% in 2005 to 14.98%.
From now until 2015, the province plans to invest nearly 608 VND billion for poverty reduction, striving to reduce of the number of poor families by 3% each year.
There are currently over 43,600 ethnic minority families in the province, accounting for over 19% of the province’s population./.
