On July 8, EVNTelecom, a 100% state-owned and self-finance subsidiary of Electricity Vietnam (EVN) and CMC Telecom Infrastructure Joint stock Company (CMCTI) signed a contract to supply international transmission channels, part of the project on establishing CMCTI’s FTTX networks in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Under the contract, CMCTI will use international internet transmission channels with capacity of up to 2.5 Gbps via EVNTelecom’s TGN-Intra Asia Cable System (IA), the region’s first direct, point-to-point and express optical-fiber submarine cable, for 5 years. In the short term, it will use the channels to offer telecommunications and multimedia entertainment services basing on the only transmission line in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

IA, one of the region’s biggest optical-fiber submarine cables interconnecting key PoPs in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore with branch extensions to the Philippines and Vietnam, has design data transmission rate of up to 3.84 Tbps. It relays transmissions to America and Europe for customers in Vietnam and other Asian countries and territories. EVNTelecom and big telecommunications firms in the world have invested in developing IA.

At the contract signing ceremony, Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Vice General Director of EVNTelecom, said EVNTelecom will ensure the transmission quality with capacity of up to 2.5 Gbps, and be ready to provide CMCTI with channels with higher capacity and competitive price if requested.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thanh, General Director of CMCTI, said the cooperation between telecommunications infrastructure providers like EVNTelecom and CMCTI shows the world’s common trend on sharing infrastructure, improving national investment efficiency, and professionalizing operations of infrastructure providers and their customers. CMCTI aims to become Vietnam’s leading provider of high-quality telecommunications services for enterprises.
