On October 5th, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held the workshop under the theme “The impacts of magnetic field based power transmission network on the human ecology – situation and solution.”

From the 1960s and 1970s of the 20th century, when the power transmission network systems 380 kV, 500 kV, 750 kV appeared in some countries in the world, people noticed the influences of high-pressure and super high-pressure power equipments on human and the environment, and all at once proposed the solution to impede the threats to human, devices and the environment.

In 2007, a newly-published monograph of the World Health Organization (WHO) on the impacts of electric and magnetic field (EMF) of industrial frequency on the body, which drops reference to 1,093 sources of 683 writers, reveals that up to now, WHO has not been able to affirm the characteristics, the level of influences as well as the mechanism and harm limit of EMF of industrial frequency to human beings. Hence, in the workshop, specialists in technical safety, scientists in electric system have concentrated on such matters as: Legal regulations on accommodations, constructions in high-pressure power corridor; Standards of EMF in designs, the operation of high-pressure and super high-pressure power network; Research results after investigating the force of electric field in the corridor of on-air wire, and the impacts of electric and magnetic based 500 kV power transmission network on the health of the population, etc. in an effort to discuss and reach the conclusions of the impacts of electric and magnetic field based power transmission network on human ecology, and then to find out preventive solutions.

In addition, the Organizing Committee of the workshop also introduced some kinds of “power-check pen” and their structures, features and functions to recognize electricity at different sensitivity levels, not to warn about the danger. Almost all representatives agreed on a conclusion: When human stay in electric and magnetic field, there will be an inductive current flowing through the body. If the force of the current is less than 0.5 mA, meaning less than the current sensor limit set in IEC 479: 1994 standard, it will not cause a current that flows through the body, thus will not do harm to people’s health. People should not confuse between electric induction with electrization. Consequently, there’s a need to widely disseminate and popularize the knowledge of electric and magnetic field to inhibit a false belief that is not based on technical science.
