According to the information from Phnom Penh, on January 2, three countries, including Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia signed the Agreement on energy cooperation so as to promote the construction project in two power transmission lines financed by World Bank (WB).
With the total estimated investment of about USD 18 million, the project will be carried out in 2008 and completed in 2010. Accordingly, a power transmission line from Tay Ninh province of Vietnam to Cong-pong Cham province of Cambodia and another from Champasak province of Laos to Stung Treng province of Cambodia will be constructed.
Mr. M.Gulati, an expert in energy field revealed that two power transmission lines would considerably help lessen the cost of power production in the mentioned provinces.
At present, a part of consumed power energy in Cambodia is imported from Vietnam, and with the above project, Cambodia will use the power generation supplied by Laos for the first time.
