The construction of the plant commenced on April 23, 2016, at the Vinh Tan Power Centre in Tuy Phong district, the southern province of Binh Thuan.

Over VND23.9 trillion (US$1.03 billion) has been invested in the project by the Electricity of Vietnam. It has a total capacity of 600MW, which will generate approximately 3.6 billion kWh of electricity each year.

The project is being implemented by a group of constructors, including Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction from the Republic of Korea, Mitsubishi Corporation from Japan, and PECC2 and PACIFIC from Vietnam.

It is one of the Government’s key power projects under Vietnam’s Power Development Master Plan VII to meet the power demand of southern provinces, particularly in the dry season.

The plant is expected to begin commercial operations by October 31, 2019.
