The awards ceremony was held for the fourth time by the Việt Nam Journalists Association, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Electricity of Vietnam.

Four "A," eight "B" and 12 "C" grade prizes as well as eight consolation prizes were given to the 32 best pieces, selected from amongst 200 entries.

The awards were presented to works published in print and electronic newspapers and those broadcast on radio and television.

Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese Journalists’ Association Hồ Quang Lợi said communicating the need for energy savings was difficult.

The media works presented energy-saving guidelines from electricians, relayed how farmers used energy efficiently or described technical solutions applied by enterprises to save energy.

The awarded press works not only reflected real stories in diverse and vivid ways but also presented them in a manner that was easy to understand, Lợi said.

Head of Science, Technology and Energy Conservation Department under the Ministry of Trade and Industry Trịnh Quốc Vũ said the media played an important role in raising public awareness of efficient energy use, helping them change their behavior to save more energy and protect the environment.

The annual event, first held in 2007, aims to honour outstanding Vietnamese writings on energy efficiency that have been published by the media, boost the quantity and quality of news articles based on stories in the field and encourage journalists and press agencies to create articles that raise public awareness of energy efficiency and energy savings across the country.
