Schneider Electric has called for local companies to embrace the practice of efficient energy use as one of the measures to counter the current challenges and improve their competitive edge.

Energy efficiency can help companies reduce costs significantly and they can invest in better performance, Schneider Electric executive vice president Eric Rondolat told the Daily. He was speaking after a business luncheon organized in HCMC on Tuesday by the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham).

Rondolat said energy efficiency was important as it guaranteed long-term growth and sustainability for companies and Vietnam, and helped reduce the impact of electricity shortage while consumption was increasing in the country.

“We do not have enough electricity capacity,” Rondolat said. He added companies were able to save electricity by not only investing in good technology but also abandoning the habit of using electricity wastefully like keeping air-conditioners on in the office where no one is in.

Rondolat noted chief executive officers knew how much their companies spent on information technology and did not often know the spending on energy consumption. He stressed consuming energy productively enabled companies to approach green production.

Rondolat leaves Vietnam today after two days of working with the local team of Schneider Electric in Vietnam as well as meeting with customers.
