First thermal power plant to be built in North Central Vietnam

The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group and the Vietnam Lilama Corporation have started building the Vung Ang 1 thermal power plant at a cost of US$1.17 billion under an Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) contract .
The plant will be part of the Vung Ang Electricity Centre in central Ha Tinh province. The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group is the main investor and the Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (Lilama) is the general EPC contractor. The plant will have two groups of generators with a total capacity of 1,200MW.
Once the two generators are operational in the first quarter of 2013, the plant will produce 7.2 billion kWh enough to meet the electricity demand of North Central Vietnam.
This is the first coal-fired power plant to be built in the North Central region.
