On May 17 in Thai Binh province, the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) held a groundbreaking ceremony to start construction of the Thai Binh Power Center in My Loc commune, Thai Thuy district, Thai Binh province, while at the same time signing a contract regarding capital for the project.
The 254.22 hectare Thai Binh Power Center will have two power plants. There's to be the 600MW Thai Binh Thermoelectric Plant 1 that is to be built using Electricity of Vietnam's (EVN) capital and the 1,200MW Thai Binh Thermoelectric Plant 2, the capital to come from PV Power, a subsidiary of PetroVietnam.
PV Power is looking into building Thai Binh thermo-electric Plant 2, which would have two 600MW turbines. This plant is expected to produce about 7.2 billion kWh of electricity yearly when it is functional. PV Power plans to start construction in 2010 and have turbine 1 ready by late 2013.
The PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVC) will be responsible for site clearance. PVC is to hand the site to EVN and PV Power sometime in 2010.
The Thai Binh Power Center is to begin supplying electricity starting in 2013./.
