The outcome of the cooperation between Van Nam Power Network Company of China and The Electricity of Vietnam in the past 4 years has been continually developing to a whole new level and attracting the attention from other countries in the subregion. At present, Van Nam Power Network Company is proactively boosting the cooperation with Laos, Myanmar and Thailand in order to prioritize the distribution in Greater Mekong Subregion’s countries.

In just 4 years, the power transmission scale of Van Nam power network to Vietnam has increased year by year. To date, China has the total of 5 power transmission lines to Vietnam, of which there are 4 in Van Nam. Van Nam has become the absolute driving force of China in the field of power transmission to Vietnam. Mr. Trinh Tuan, President of International Cooperation Department of Van Nam Power Network Company, said that: “Currently, we have meticulously introduced about power transmission scale of Van Nam power network to Vietnam with 110 kV and 220 kV transmission lines and 700,000 kW transmission capacity. The transmitted power output of this year is estimated at 2.5 billion kWh. In the first 10 months, Van Nam Power Network Company has transmitted over 2 billion kWh to Vietnam, approximately 4% of the total supplied year-on-year power output throughout Vietnam.”
In terms of the potential of Trung-Viet cooperation, the two countries China and Vietnam all expect that the one-way power supply of China to Vietnam at present can develop to the two-way power supply between the two nations. Mr. Trinh Ngoai Sinh, President of Planning and Development Department of Van Nam Power Network Company revealed that the advantage of Van Nam was hydropower whereas that of Vietnam was thermal power, so the addition to each other was considerable. “In flood season, Van Nam can transmit power to Vietnam, and in dry season, when Van Nam lacks power, Vietnam can transmit power to Van Nam in return,” he added.
The cooperation with Vietnam is just the first step of Van Nam Power Network Company in the plan of cooperating with Greater Mekong Subregion, and the Company is proactively strengthening thee cooperating relationship with Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.
