Preventing power loss in such big cities as Hanoi, Hai Phong, HCM City, Danang and others is proving to be a big headache.

s for Power Co 1 (PC1), preventing power loss is even more difficult because almost all electricity system has been built from 1960-1980. Meanwhile, the company provides electricity to 24 provinces from the central province of Ha Tinh to Northern provinces.

According to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the technical loss is unavoidable because of heat loss of conducting wires. Thus, the existing electricity system that has not been taken care for many years, is causing big difficulties for PC1 in electricity supply and a heavy burden for the company in terms of power loss.

According to a recent report of PC1, in the first eight months, the company's power loss was 8.86 percent of total commercial electricity productivity, 10.1 billion kWh.

If the average electricity price is 809.71 dong a kWh, within the last eight months, PC1 lost billions of dongs from power loss.

Seeing great importance of power loss, PC1 has strived to take different measures to improve its electricity system since the start of this year. The company targets to reduce the power loss to 6.25 percent this year.

Since 2000, PC1 has invested nearly 14 trillion dong into upgrading over 14,000 construction items. On the other hand, PC1 has actively built overload prevention programmes.
