According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, power industry sets the goal to produce 77.17 billion kWh to meet the economy’s demand for electricity. However, that goal cannot be reached unless invested power generator plans are operated in due course.

Details of operation are the 2nd and 3rd group of machine of Tuyen Quang hydropower plant in January and June 2008; the 2nd group of Pleikong hydropower plant in March; group No.1 and No. 2 of  A Vuong in March and June; Ban Ve hydropower plant in June; mixed gas turbin of Nhon Trach No. 1 in June; group No. 1 and No. 2’s mixed gas turbin of O Mon III ( single session) in June and October; mixed gas turbin of Ca Mau No. 2 in March; group No. 1 and No. 3 of Buon Kuop hydropower plant in June and October; Son Dong thermal power plant in June and December.

Besides, EVN continues importing electricity from China, increasing the total imported power to 29 billion kWh in an effort to reduce electricity loss to less than 11%.
The Ministry said that the delay of invested generators and complicated changes in weather in 2008 result in the lack of electricity. Hence, to minimize difficulties, electricity saving measures need taking intensively, power plans need speeding up their pace.
To regulate electricity activities, Ministry of Industry and Trade inspect regularly the EVN’s operation of electricity system for its efficiency. Also, the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam should focus on the settlement of regulations, principles and legal documents related to the establishment and development of power market. In the mean time, ERAV collaborate with relevant Ministries and branches and enterprises to promote the power industry reform towards marketising electricity businesses./.
