Powering 220 kV Southern Sai Gon - Urban District 8 transmission line.
This transmission line has been constructed for strengthening the electricity supply ability for urban district 8 and surrounding area, anti-overloading the 220kV Nha be and Tao Dan transformer substations, contributing to reducing the load in the central area and improving the reliability of power supply in Ho Chi Minh City power system.
The project named 220 kV South Saigon - District 8 transmission line with a length of 6.5 km in fact is a combining line of 220 kV underground cable for connecting 220 kV Southern Saigon and Urban District 8 transformer substations, and 110 kV overhead one for transferring power from 500/220/110kV Nha Be and Phu lam transformer substations to 110 kV Phu Dinh, Chanh Hung, Hung Vuong and Tan Hung transformer substations.
When implementing the project, the construction contractors had to overcome many difficulties such as: underground cable section on Ta Quang Buu – Urban District 8 street and Highway 50 - Binh Chanh district as the high traffic density roads with many existing and under construction underground projects. This is also the area often impacted by flood-tide and flood that caused many difficulties in site clearance.
In order to overcome these difficulties, many initiatives and solutions were applied, and the most notably was the design solution of PI pier (coupling 2 single steel piers together to reduce the area of the foundation instead of tower piers and at the same time to ensure the load capacity of the pier). This solution was firstly applied on the power grid of HCM city.
