Quickly implement projects in Power Plan VI

In line with the proposals of The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) about the implementation of projects according to the Power Plan VI, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, Chief of the National Steering Committee of Power Plan VI has assigned EVN to quickly complete the preparation stage in order to implement projects in 2008 as planned, especially projects such as Duyen Hai 1, Vinh Tan 2, Mong Duong 1, Nghi Son 1 and Thai Binh 1 and to urgently construct several categories in the preparation stage for Lai Chau hydropower project.

The Deputy Prime Minister required Vietnam Coal and Mineral Corporation and EVN to without delay sign the contract for the coal supply for the projects in Power Plan VI. He also assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to verify the Investment Report of Lai Chau hydropower project and then submit it to the Prime Minister. The Ministry of Finance was requested to examine the lending mechanism with the USD 400-million-loan from Vietnam Development Bank so that EVN could liquidate the contract for equipment provision for Son La hydropower project an some other power generation projects. The Ministry of Transport and Traffic must ensure the smooth traffic on the Highway No.6 in rain season and punctually deal with problems occurring.
The Deputy Prime Minister required the Ministry of Industry and Trade to supply concrete guidance for Vietnam Coal and Mineral Corporation to timely provide explosive for Son La hydropower project and other urgent power projects and at the same time ratify the planning of Vung Ang No.3, Quang Trach, Hai Phong 3 Thermal Power Centers and Trung Son hydropower investment project. The Ministry of Industry and Trade also has to supervise investors and contractors to maintain the progress rate as passed in the Power Plan VI by the Prime Minister. For the 110 kV submarine cable to Phu Quoc island, the Deputy Prime Minister required the Ministry of Foreign Affaires and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to cooperate with each other and EVN to work with Cambodian authorities. 
The Power Plan VI for the period 2006 – 2015 – 2025 was ratified by the Prime Minister in July 2007 with the estimated increase of additional load of about 17%/year (basic strategy) and 20%/year (centered strategy), of which the centered strategy is the administration and preparation strategy for the 22% strategy for the case of sudden increase. The total capacity of the power generations which have been put into operation the 2006 – 2015 period is nearly 60,000 MW, almost 5 times larger as large as that of the current national power network.
