The matter of providing power for Economic Regions is carefully looked into. Specifically, for Southern Economic Region, Vietnam will urgently investigate the location to develop more coal-fired thermal power companies with large capacity, satisfying the needs of the region in case that the growth rate is faster than expected. Hopefully, by 2015, the Region will have developed from 11 to 13 generation constructions with the total capacity of 3,700 – 5,000 MW. After 2015, 2 or 3 coal-fired thermal power companies with the capacity of 1,200 – 1,800 MW and energy storage hydropower companies will be built.
Besides, Southern Economic Region will synchronically develop power network in all voltage-levels in order to meet the demand of power in the Region. In more details, by 2010, there will be 4 more 500kV substations with the total capability of 2,550 MVA and 365.5 km of 500kV double-circuit line; 15 new 220kV substations with the total capability of 5,250 MVA and 240 km of 220kV double-circuit line; 76 new 110kV substations with the total capability of 4,520 MVA and 660 km of 110kV line. In addition, Vietnam will upgrade the capacity of 3 substations of 220kV with the total added capacity of 750 MVA, lift up the capacity of 62 substations of 110kV with the total added capacity of 2,932 MVA and renovate 164 km of 110kV line.
