Tam Hiep hydropower project to be completed in 2008

As said by Mr. Cao Guangjing, Vice President of Tam Hiep Project Development in Duong Tu river, the project on constructing the world largest hydropower plant in Hubei province, China has come to the last section with the installation of the remaining power generators.

                   

According to Mr. Cao Guangjing, the above project will be completed in 2008 and will wait for the approval of the authorities before being put into operation. The water level of the artificial reservoir will increase to 175 m in September 2008 for the first time, which will help it to play a better role in controlling floods.
12 turbines on the right bank of Tam Hiep Dam will be installed and put into action in December 2008. Before that, the construction of the main dam which is 2,309 m long and 185 m high had been finished in May 2006, and Mr. Cao said that all the important landmarks of this project are to be completed prior to the due date and the project is expected to finish 1 year earlier than the planned completion time 2009.
The mentioned project valued USD 22.5 billion has attracted the participation of 26,000 labourers consisting of experts and specialists from mare than 50 countries and territories in the world.
