A break-through in fixed telephone market

Before the launch of E-Come service, experts believed that fixed telephones would be gradually replaced with mobile phones. In fact, along with the development of mobile networks, that of fixed telephones was slowing down. What happened after that?

In 2006, when E-Com, the wireless fixed telephones service using CDMA 450 MHz technology of EVNTelecom was officially launched in the market, very few experts imagined E-Com would make a change. At that time, mobile phone services was attracting the attention with the out-break of Viettel mobile network.

In accordance with the vigorous growth of mobile networks, fixed telephone services seemed to fall into oblivion on the media except for some promotion programs accompanied by fixed telephone installation of ADSL service providers. In reality, the growth rate of fixed telephone subscribers of almost all service providers such as VNPT, Viettel and Saigon Postel was quite slow. In rural areas, especially the remote ones, the development of fixed telephones was extremely difficult due to the huge investment but low revenue in return.

However, after just 2 years participating in the market, E-Com, EVNTelecom’s wireless fixed telephones service, has recorded an incredible breakthrough in terms of subscriber development in the field of fixed telephones. If it takes a lot of time for other telecom enterprises to have 100,000 fixed telephone subscribers, it only takes EVNTelecom 2 years to achieved 2 million. This was the figure that few experts can thought of when E-Com emerged in the market in 2006.

The more amazing thing is that wireless fixed telephone service of EVNTelecom (E-Com) strongly developed in areas that used to be believed to have no potential of subscriber development in the near future – rural areas. While other companies focused on developing mobile phone subscribers, neglecting fixed telephones as well as the rural areas, EVNTelecom selected this ignored market segment.

Unlike normal fixed telephones, wireless fixed telephones of EVNTelecom can be easily installed in all kinds of topography with low cost, which can hardly be realized with wired fixed telephones. Moreover, another reason why customers rushed to install E-Com instead of the traditional type of fixed telephones is the Internet access with cheap price, mobility and high speed. In particular, in rural or suburban areas where telecom enterprises have difficulty connecting the fixed telephone cables, E-Com, the wireless fixed telephone service, seems to be the perfect choice.

In 2008, along with the appearance of two new rivals in the wireless fixed telephone market namely G-Phone and Home-Phone, the representative of EVNTelecom Mr. Nguyen Trong Hiep- Manager of Business Department reckoned that: “E-Com will continue to maintain the rapid growth rate with the aim of accomplishing 3 – 4 million of subscribers by the end of 2008.” Fierce competiton means more difficulty, but EVNTelecom believes that with current special offers, E-Com will still affirm its position in the wireless fixed telephone market.
