France intends to erect power company in Hau Giang

Electricity De France (EDF) has jus joined a meeting with the local authority of Hau Giang province to discuss the plan of constructing coal-fired thermal power company in Hau river Industrial Region in Chau Thanh district.

EDF is currently examining the area of construction so that it can complete the paperwork, submit to the local authority and make proposal for investing license.

 

Before that, Toyo Ink Corporation of Malaysia signed the land leasing contract in Thoi Hoa Industrial Region in Ben Cat district, Binh Duong province to construct a thermal power company with the total investment of nearly VND 1 billion.

 

In order to attract investment in power field, the Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung has already approved the national power development Plan in the period of 2006-2015-2025, of which foreign economic units are encouraged to join the projects on generation and power network construction.

 

As planned, power provision will increase by 17% /year (basic strategy) and maybe up to 20% /year (broad strategy) in 2006-2015 period so as to satisfy the demand of socio-economic development of the country.

 

According to Mr. Dao Van Hung, the President of Vietnam Electricity, to achieve the above target, Vietnam needs to build another 74 power companies and centers with the total capacity of 81,000 MW. In more details, Vietnam will erect 46 hydropower companies, 2 combined hydropower centers, 5 gas-fired thermal power centers, 17 coal-fired thermal power companies and centers, 2 nuclear power centers, and 2 new and reestablished energy centers.

 

As estimated by power sector, in the period of 2006-2015, Vietnam requires USD 4 billion for electricity constructions.

 

In an effort to draw capital from foreign investors, the power sector has carried out diversifying investment methods, boosting equitization of member units, issuing bonds and cooperating with neighbor countries to build power system projects.
