To date, almost all nuclear power companies in China have chosen CPR 1000 nuclear pile technology, a Chinese compressed-water nuclear pile which has the capacity of 1000 MWe. The new technologies used in CPR 1000 consist of distribution control system, turbine, semi-speed generator and advanced fuel management. The service life of the nuclear pile as in the design is 60 years.
CPR 1000 has consulted the nuclear technology of the late 1980s in the world and it has been modified in design. In reality, those factors have upgraded major technical indexes like security, feasibility, unit cost and construction time which is higher than that in nuclear power plants with the capacity of 1000 MW operating in the world.
In the workshop, representatives of China Nuclear Power Technology Company revealed that CPR 1000 nuclear pile which was a safe, reliant and economical one could be put into practice. It does not require re-investigation, experiments and trial operation.
According to the long-term plan of nuclear power development in China, in 2020, the total capacity of nuclear power plants which are operating will be 40,000 MWe and the capacity of those which are being constructed will be around 18,000 MWe. The capacity of nuclear power plants in the near future will be 30,000 MWe higher than that at present.
