The state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) estimates that Vietnam’s power consumption in 2010 will raise by 13 per cent to 14 per cent.

The estimate is based on the government's 2010 forecast of gross domestic product growth between 6.5 per cent and 7 per cent and industrial production growth of 7 per cent to 7.5 per cent.

The country's total electricity output will be 93.4 billion kWh in 2010, with between 3 billion kWh and 3.5 billion kWh imported from other countries, the group said.

EVN forecasts that the total capacity of the national electricity system will climb to 21,472 MW in 2010, up by 3,578 MW or by 19.99 per cent from this year’s figures.

The group will put into operation an additional seven power projects next year.
