The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) officially approved an amount of 280 billion dong to three poor districts of Lai Chau province: Than Uyen, Tan Uyen and Phong Tho on July 9.

The said amount will help these districts with socio-economic development and poverty reduction. Of which, around 250 billion dong is invested in power projects in order to make 100 percent communes in three districts accessible to electricity and raise the average electricity from 41 percent to 90 percent by 2012.

Households in Lai Chau will benefit from the electrification projects as they can buy electricity directly from EVN with preferential prices.

Besides, the development assistance is also allocated to education and health care. 13 billion dong is used to wipe out shanty houses and build boarding schools for secondary students. EVN will give 100 percent training fee and 50 percent subsistence expenses to 30 students attending vocational training classes.
