2008: Must generate 2,200 MW of power

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in order to meet the demand of economic development of 8.5 – 9% in this year, the power production is expected to achieved about 77.2 billion kWh, of which power sales is 68.2 billion kWh, a 17.2 % year-on-year increase.

                             

There should be 2,200 MW of power generated with the progress rate so as to contribute to the national power network. Power plants which are to operated compose of Tuyen Quang Hydropower (2 units will generate in January and June 2008 respectively), Plei Krong Hydropower (will generate in March), A Vuong Hydropower (2 units will generate in March and June), Ban Ve Hydropower (will generate in June), Nhon Trach 1 combined gas-turbine, O Mon 3 and Ca Mau 2 (will generate in March, June, July and September), Buon Kuop Hydropower, Son Dong Coal-fired Thermal Power Company and so on.
Besides, EVN needs to import power from China, raising the total amount of imported power to 3.4 billion kWh. At the same time, the Corporation is attempting to lessen power loss to just fewer than 11%.
