Alstom Corporation has bought 51% of shares from Wuhan Boiler Company Limited (WBC), a Chinese company listed in Shenzhen’s stock market, which equals to EUR 32.8 million. The purchasing has proceeded as regulated by China’s stock market: being approved by China Securities Committee for the last time on July 6, 2007 and after the final trading session on July 11, 2007.
Wuhan Boiler Company Limited used to be the trading partner of Alstom for the past 10 years with the annual revenue of around EUR 200 million. Through WBC, Alstom will have more and more chances to make inroads into one of the most potential market in the world of boilers for coal-fired thermal power companies in China. The cooperation with Wuhan Company also helps Alstom lay the foundation for a strategic industrial base to export its technologies to other nations. In fact, nearly 35% of boilers manufactured in Wuhan Company is exported to the world market.

Apart from paving the way for WBC to approach the world market, Alstom provides the company with the advanced technology of supercritical pulverized-coal-fired boiler (SC PCs), circulating fluidized-bed boiler (CFB), burning low-NOx-emitted boiler as well as the skills and experince of international management.

The new company specializing in producing supercritical boilers with the capacity of 600MW and 1000MW and circulating fluidized-bed boiler with the up-to-the-minute technology will be built in Wuhan’s outskirt with the total area of 140,000 m2. Wuhan Boiler Company will be able to meet the increasingly high demand of boilers in Chinese market, and in parallel, guarantee the environment protection task thanks to the advanced technology that lessens the emission and enhances the productivity of power companies.

The decision of investing in Chinese market strengthens the specification of Alstom’s products in this country where the Corporation has constructed companies that manufacture gas-turbines of 600 MW and generators near the capital Beijing and hydropower generators in Tianjin.

In Alstom China, there are currently over 8,500 employees who work in 5 factories in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Wuhan and Quingdao.

In the event of buying shares from this famous boiler making company, Mr. Philippe Joubert, the CEO of Alstom Power Systems has said in his speech that: “ The buying shares of Wuhan Boiler Company Limited is considered an extremely important event in the development strategy of Alstom in China in keeping with implementing the clean power generation technology. The combination of the capability of producing steam-turbines and generators of Alstom Beizhong Power with the capability of manufacturing boilers with up-to-date technology of Wuhan Boiler Company will enable Alstom to introduce solutions of cleanest technology for coal-fired thermal power companies in China.. Chinese market plays a crucial role as a manufacturing, exporting and researching-developing (R&D)  center of Alstom in Asia.”
