On January 28, in his speech in the inauguration ceremony in Xvai Rieng province, Cambodia which is near Vietnam, the Cambodian Prime Minister, Mr. Hunsen said that Cambodia intended to import more power from Vietnam in order to satisfy the increasing demand of power in the country.
The Prime Minister, Mr. Hunsen has instructed the Minister of the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Energy to carry out the negotiation to import 200 MW of power from Vietnam annually.
At present, each year, Cambodia is importing 80 MW of power from Vietnam. However, this amount is not sufficient to meet the rising of electricity demand of nation. Take the capital Phnom Penh apart, the electricity demand is escalating by 25% per year.
