Citizens in area of project support the construction of nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan

On May 21, the Workshop under the theme “Nuclear power plant and the approval of the population” held by The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Electricité de France (EDF) attracted the attention of more than 400 representatives of local authorities in Ninh Phuoc and Ninh Hai districts and the households in the area of the project.

In the Workshop, almost all people in the area of the project on nuclear power plant in Phuoc Dinh commune (Ninh Phuoc district) and Vinh Hai commune (Ninh Hai district) all approved of the policy according to which a nuclear power plant would be constructed in the province. As said by Mr. Pham Gai (53 years old) along with a number of people in Phuoc Dinh commune, Phuoc Dinh is a coastal commune, which is very advantageous to develop ecosystem tourism in the future. However, they would not forget about the long-term benefits just because of short-term ones, thus the population in Phuoc Dinh all approved of the policy of constructing a nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan. Mr. Trinh Thong, Chairman of Vinh Hai commune’s People Committee reckoned that when localities in Vinh Hai commune, Ninh Hai district were informed about this plan, they all supported the policy of the State.
Nevertheless, the problem was that EVN should cautiously investigate and learn about the up-to-the-minute technology in the world to apply to Vietnam so that the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam would be secure and environmental-friendly. The population also hoped that the investors would make it transparent when carrying out land clearing, migration and resettlement as well as would speed up the training program for the human resource of the plant, creating stable jobs for the citizens in the area of the project.
In order for the population to clearly understand the policy, Mr. Phan Minh Tuan, Chief of Preparation Board of Nuclear Power and Recycled Energy Investment (EVN), has answered numerous questions that have been drawing attention from the public. At the same time, he believed that the policy on constructing a nuclear power plant in Phuoc Dinh commune, Ninh Phuoc district and Vinh Hai commnune, Ninh Hai district with 4 units, the capacity of 4,000 MW and the total investment of about USD 9 billion was a strategic project of the country. Hence, the construction would be quickly carried out and perhaps the first unit would be generated in 2020. This is an important responsibility that EVN is taking.
