Vietnam to invest in 31 hydropower projects in Laos

From now to 2020, Vietnam will invest in 31 hydropower projects with the total capacity of just over 5,000 MW in Laos.

The above is one part of the content derived from the minute signed on March 14th in Hanoi in the meeting between the Minister of Ministry of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang and the Minister of Laos’ Ministry of Energy and Mine.           

                                                                         

In terms of deposit, Minister Vu Huy Hoang proposed the Ministry of Energy and Mine of Laos to submit to Lao Government for the licenses for Vietnam to investigate, exploit and process minerals in some mines in Laos, of which there were the licenses for Vietnam Coal and Mineral Cooperation to carry out the exploitation in Nam Ngan coal mine and for Vietnam Chemical Company to investigate 1,200 m2 more of salt mine area.

The Minister of Laos’ Ministry of Energy and Mine also expressed his trust that the two parties would fulfill the projected plans and emphasized that Laos always wanted to cooperate with Vietnam in implementing Laos’ projects.

After that, representatives from Laos’ Ministry of Energy and Mine met the President Nguyen Minh Triet and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung. Furthermore, the delegation also attended a conference with some Vietnamese enterprises such as Vietnam Coal and Mineral Cooperation, Chemical Company, Gas and Oil Corporation and Ship Industry Corporation. The visit of Laos’ Ministry of Energy and Mine ended on March 16th.
