According to the Project Management Board of Uong Bi Thermal Power Extension I, the unit 1 of the company can only dependably operate in March 2008 and generate commercial power in April 2008. Therefore, the objective of developing power generation will be delayed for 4 months in comparison with Power Plan VI.

Uong Bi Thermal Power Extension I Project fired coal accompanied by oil for the first time successfully, reaching the capacity of 150 MW on June 1, 2007. On July 3, the company generated 303 MW entirely by coal and has provided the national power system a considerable power output. Still, since July 18, the unit often has to stop operation for repairing, adjusting and recovering defects and incidents related to superheater, burner, vibration of turbines, etc., so the oil escape in the running test is much more than as planned.

For the time being, the general contractor EPC and the contractor providing Power Machine (PM) are gathering human resources, especially knowledgeable experts, to adjust and test the equipments; to assure the immediate replacement of flawed devices; and to organize the operation for the Investor in accordance with EPC contract. Furthermore, the investor and consulting supervisor has closely collaborated, paving the way for the General Contractor EPC to complete the trial program and adjust the equipments.

Especially, Uong Bi Thermal Power Company has synthesized the categories that have been put into dependable operation and has been accepted by the Taking-over Committee of Vietnam Electricity. Besides, the Investor coordinates with the General Contractor EPC to submit to the Prime Minister so that the Investor may finance the Contractor in buying running test oil after the experimental operation.

For Uong Bi Thermal Power Extension II Project, the package EPC has issued the invitation to tender since August 16, 2007 and is carrying out compensation, migration for land clearance and resettlement. Expectedly, in February 2008, the contract will be signed. With this project, the Investor needs to urgently deploy compensation, land clearance and resettlement. In parallel, Uong Bi Thermal Power Company supervises and speeds up dismounting the workshops and units in order to finish land clearance of the company in the very year 2007. On the other hand, strictly inspection of bidding helps to select an experienced contractor that accomplish the objective of generate commercial power in the quarter 3 of 2011.
