On February 11, as said by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duy, Director of Power Company No.2, the project on 110 kV submarine electric cable line for Phu Quoc island commune in Kien Giang province is being carried out.

At present, Power Company No.2 is longing for the decision from Government’s interbranch investigation group on the line direction of the project, and then will hire consulting unit to establish the design and investigation project. This is the first time that Vietnam has implemented the project on the longest ever submarine cable, which is 50 km in minimum or 60 km in maximum depending on the selected line direction. The total investment of the project is estimated at over VND 1,300 billion and the project is expected to be put into operation in 2010. Phu Quoc is currently using electricity from diesel and the power sector suffers from the loss of about VND 45 billion annually. According to Government’s policy, Phu Quoc island commune will become the special administrative and economic region controlled by the Central.
